Yeovil Archaeological and Local History Society

Winter Programme – 2015/16

Are you interested in history and archaeology? Particularly of Yeovil and its surrounding towns & villages?

YALHS talks start at 7:30 pm (prompt), usually on the 1st Friday of the month, Oct – May.

We also organise regular visits to archaeological digs and historical sites during the summer months.

Friday 9th October (note date change) – A Talk by Context One Archaeological Services.

Friday 6th November – ‘Yeovil’s Glove-making Legacy.’

Friday 27th November (note change from December date) – ‘A History of Milborne Port.’

Friday 8th January 2016 – Members’ Evening – various talks

Friday 5th February – ‘The Unreturning Army.’ (the speaker talks about his father’s World War One experiences in France in 1917-18)

Friday 4th March – ‘The Archaeology of the Anchorhold.’ (Religious Recluses’ Hideaways).
Speaker – Jerry Sampson

Friday 1st April – ‘The Air Defence of South-West England during World War Two.’
Speaker – John Smith

Friday 6th May – short AGM followed by a talk – ‘The Fovant Badges.’  Entrance Free – Come along!
Speaker – Tony Phillips

Talks are held at Holy Trinity Church and Community Centre, Lysander Rd, Yeovil, BA20 2BU (Non-members Welcome)

Individuals £10; Couples £15; Family £18; Juniors/Students £2.
