Winter Programme – 2017/18

Are you interested in history and archaeology? Particularly of Yeovil and its surrounding towns & villages?

YALHS talks start at 7:30 pm (prompt), on the 1st Friday of the month, Oct – May.

We also organise regular visits to archaeological digs and historical sites during the summer months.

Fri 6th Oct 17– Alberto Biolleti – A Soldier of Napoleon and Master Clockmaker of Wincanton
Speaker – John Baxter – Active Member of Wincanton History Society

Fri 3rd Nov – Archaeology of Stone Quarrying
Speaker – Dr Peter Stanier

Fri 1st Dec – Somerset’s Highway Heritage (this talk replaces the one previously advertised)
Speaker – Richard Raynsford – and is secretary of Pilton History Group also author of ‘The Diversity of Englands’s Heritage’

Fri 5th Jan 18 – Members’ Evening – all welcome – With a quiz, various talks and light refreshments

Fri 2nd Feb – South Dorset Ridgeway Mapping Project
Speaker – Claire Pinder – Senior Archaeologist at Dorset County Council

Fri 2nd Mar – Walter Bagehot – Langport’s Unknown Celebrity
Talk Cancelled re-programmed for Next Year
Speaker – Barry Winetrobe – an academic constitutional lawyer and parliamentary researcher, has researched, written, taught and spoken about Walter Bagehot over many years.

Fri 6th Apr – LIDAR – The Imaging of a Hidden Landscape
Speaker – Bryan Moore – Master of Science in Applied Landscape Archaeology

Fri 4th May – AGM followed by a talk – Brewing in Weymouth – Speaker – Dr David Riches – Director at Weymouth Museum Trust and Collection Manager at Weymouth Museum. – (Non-members – free entrance!) – bring a friend 


Talks are held at Holy Trinity Church and Community Centre, Lysander Rd, Yeovil, BA20 2BU (Non-members Welcome – £2 at the door)

Membership:
Individuals £10; Couples £15; Family £18; Juniors/Students £2.
