Yeovil Archaeological and Local History Society

Winter Programme – 2016/17

Are you interested in history and archaeology? Particularly of Yeovil and its surrounding towns & villages?

YALHS talks start at 7:30 pm (prompt), on the 1st Friday of the month, Oct – May.

We also organise regular visits to archaeological digs and historical sites during the summer months.

Friday 7th October 16 – ‘Writing the Victoria County History for Somerset‘ – Postponed – talk now on Friday 7th April
Speaker – Mary Siraut

Friday 4th November – ‘The Postal System of Great Britain’ Details from Mediaeval times up until 1840
Speaker – Roger Marsh

Friday 2nd December  – ‘Clarks of Street – the story of a Quaker business’
Speaker – Dr Tim Crumplin – archivist at the Clarks museum.

Friday 6th January 2017 – Members’ Evening – various talks – followed by Nibbles – non-members welcome!

Friday 3rd February  – ‘Bristol Blue Glass’
Speaker – Dr Francis Burroughes

Friday 3rd March  – ‘Barrington Court’
Speaker – John Allen

Friday 7th April – ‘Writing the Victoria County History for Somerset‘ – (talk originally planned for last October)
Speaker – Mary Siraut

Friday 5th May  – A short AGM followed by a Victorian Slide Show given by Humphrey Hamlin (Non-members – free entrance!) – bring a friend!


Talks are held at Holy Trinity Church and Community Centre, Lysander Rd, Yeovil, BA20 2BU (Non-members Welcome – £2 at the door)

Membership:
Individuals £10; Couples £15; Family £18; Juniors/Students £2.
