Friday 2nd February – Tim Hall – Outdoor Music Making in Somerset – In Tim’s talk ‘Sound your Instruments of Joy’, he explores and celebrates the traditions of outdoor music making in Somerset and beyond. His talk will range through ancient horns to village bands, folk noise, militia bands, drummers, rough music, and much more. Tim will draw on Somerset’s rich history of outdoor music and look at the social history, the role of music and sound making, as well as the use of sound in celebration and protest. He will add a narrative to some of the battles fought over how we express ourselves and the noise we make. There will be many illustrations, some instruments, live music and singing.

Friday 1^st March – Liz Caldwell of Mick Aston Young Archaeologists Group (MAYA) talking about Mick Aston, Julian Richards and Phil Harding and past excavations along with the practical fieldwork carried out.
