THE SOMERSET AND DORSET
FAMILY HISTORY SOCIETY

Founded in 1975 the Somerset and Dorset Family History Society is a member of the Federation of Family History Societies and aims to promote and advance interest in family history in all its aspects in the area covered by the counties of Somerset and Dorset.

Meetings are held bi-monthly at various venues throughout Somerset and Dorset, with additional meetings at Taunton, Wimborne, and Yeovil, where local groups have been formed. Members are actively engaged in projects such as transcribing parish records, particularly parish registers and copying monumental inscriptions in churchyards.

A newsletter, ‘The Greenwood Tree’, is issued quarterly free of charge to full members of the Society. Subscription is £3.00 per annum, £1.50 for each family member residing at the same address, £3.50 for overseas members (surface mail rate) and £5.50 (air mail rate). Future meetings include:

September: Tuesday 12 September 1978 at 7.30 p.m. Yeovil and District Group Meeting at the Marwick Centre, Reckleford, Yeovil. Mrs Joy Burden talks on ‘Local and Family History’.
Friday 15 September at 7.30 p.m. in Poole Central Library, Arndale Centre, Poole. Miss Daphne Hills, B.A.,talks on ‘Civic Records as a Source for Family,History’.

October: Saturday 7 October at 2-30 p.m, in the Monmouth Hall, Sunningdale Estate, Yeovil. Third Annual General Meeting.
